Snow Moon
The month of February brings us a very cool (pun intended) “Snow Moon”. The “Snow Moon” gets its name because of the heavy snowfall that occurs in the month of February.
Back in 1760, Jonathon Carver chose the name for February's moon to differentiate it from any other month in the winter. The term “Snow Moon” is used because more snow commonly falls during the month of February than any other month in the winter. We also know it by the name of “Hungarian Moon” or “Bonny Moon”. Belief about the “Snow Moon” was that hunting was nearly impossible in ancient times, due to severe weather in this month.
The “Snow Moon” will make its presence known on February 5th, 2023. I hope everyone has their snow shovels ready. I know that I am excited to see this snowy moon because it reminds me of the “Strawberry Moon”, which made its appearance last June, at the start of summer. Make sure to keep an eye out on February 5th, and take a moment to look up at that wintery sky to the “Snow Moon”.
As Always XOXOXOXO NicoleHeart
